Some brands spend years trying to get people to pay attention. Others find a way to make people feel involved before the product even reaches its full potential.

KATSEYE is an interesting example of how that works.

Created through a partnership between HYBE and Geffen Records, KATSEYE was built around a global idea: combine the performance and artist-development approach associated with K-pop with a group whose members bring different backgrounds, personalities, and styles to the table. Its formation began with more than 120,000 submissions, eventually narrowing the field to six members. The journey also became the subject of Netflix’s Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE. 1

That is more than a music story. It is a marketing strategy.

Give People a Reason to Care Before You Ask Them to Buy

One of the most effective parts of KATSEYE’s story is that the audience could follow the journey, not just the finished product.

Fans had an opportunity to learn about the performers, watch the development process, and become invested in the people behind the music. By the time the group released its first music, there was already a story for audiences to connect with.

Small businesses can learn from this.

People do not always buy the best product on paper. They buy from businesses they recognize, trust, remember, and feel connected to. Showing the people behind a company, explaining how a product is made, or sharing the challenges of building a business can create a connection that a standard advertisement cannot.

You do not have to be a global pop group to give people a reason to care.

Different Personalities, One Recognizable Brand

KATSEYE brings together six members with different backgrounds and individual identities. The challenge is making those differences feel like part of one coherent group rather than six unrelated brands.

That is a useful lesson for any business.

A restaurant might have a great chef, a memorable owner, a talented bartender, and a unique atmosphere. But if its marketing communicates none of that, customers have little reason to remember it.

A strong brand makes its individual strengths work together. It has a clear identity while giving people different reasons to connect with it.

Attention Is Only the Beginning

KATSEYE’s reach has extended beyond music into fashion, beauty, and other brand partnerships. Its appearance in Gap’s “Better in Denim” campaign showed how a group’s cultural visibility can become part of another company’s marketing strategy.

For businesses, this is where the real opportunity begins. Getting views is useful, but views alone do not guarantee sales.

The important questions are what happens next. Are people visiting the website? Are they searching for the business? Are they asking questions, booking appointments, or making purchases?

Marketing should connect attention to an outcome. Otherwise, a business can spend money entertaining an audience that never becomes a customer.

What KLIXO Takes From the KATSEYE Playbook

At KLIXO, we believe effective marketing starts with understanding people, the competition, and the market a business is trying to reach.

That means looking beyond how many likes a post receives. It means identifying which messages attract the right audience, which channels create meaningful opportunities, and where a business can stand out instead of copying everybody else.

AI can help uncover patterns and opportunities. Human judgment turns those findings into a strategy that makes sense for the business.

KATSEYE operates on a global stage, but the underlying lesson applies to a local restaurant, an HVAC company, a neighborhood gym, or a growing service business: build a recognizable identity, give people a reason to care, and make sure your attention leads somewhere.

You do not need a celebrity budget to market intelligently. You need to know what makes your business worth remembering and how to get that message in front of the right people.
